The River Cats lived to fight another day as they took care of Salt Lake to force a winner take all gave all five in a ten inning, 7-4 win. Salt Lake jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third but the River Cats answered and tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning. The River Cats then took the lead in the fifth only to have Salt Lake tie it in the eighth, which sent things into extra frames. Then Danny Putnam belted a big three run homer in the bottom of the tenth to win it.
It was Putnam’s second homer of the day and he finished with five RBIs. Nicholas Blasi accounted for the rest of the offense and he belted two solo homers.
Brad Ziegler pitched an impressive game and he picked up the win. He threw 2 2/3 shutout innings in which he didn’t give up a hit. He walked two and struck out three.
There wasn’t much solid pitching in the Rockhounds 9-8 loss to San Antonio. Kazuhito Tadano gave up five runs in six innings and Jeffrey Coleman gave up four runs in just 2/3 of an inning.
Danny Putnam had a monster game at the plate. He went two for four with a double, a homerun and five RBIs. Richie Robnett homered and he scored two runs.
The Rockhounds outlasted Arkansas in a 7-6, twelve inning win. Jeffrey Baisley had a huge game. He went three for four with two homeruns, two walks, three RBIs and two runs. Danny Putnam also helped out with two doubles and four RBIs.
Benjamin Fritz was roughed up in his start while Brad Ziegler picked up the win with a no hit twelth inning.
Vince Faison and Danny Putnam led the way on offense for the Rockhounds in their season opener. Faison had two hits, three RBIs and a run while Putnam hit a three run shot in the seventh inning to blow the game open. Brian Snyder had a good game as well with two hits and two runs.
Dallas Braden picked up the win in six solid innings. He gave up just a single run on two hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
