Cougars’ pitching gave up 13 runs on 20 hits in a 13-6 loss to Burlington. Four different pitchers gave up at least three runs and it was John Herrera who picked up the loss. He gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings and the loss drops him to 2-7 on the season.
Jermaine Mitchell went two for five with two RBIs and a run. Michael Massaro went three for five with a double, an RBI and two runs.
Trevor Cahill improved to 3-1 on the season with a great start in the Cougars 3-0 win. He gave up six hits and a walk with four strikeouts in seven shutout innings.
Jermaine Mitchell had a nice day at the plate in the win. He went one for four with a solo homerun and two runs.
Scott Moore gave up a run to Clinton in the top of the eleventh that proved to the be the game winner in a 7-6 eleven inning loss for the Ports. Moore dropped to 0-4 on the season and while he took the loss, James Heuser was hardly stellar in his start. He gave up six runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Jermaine Mitchell had a nice day at the plate. He went two for six with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.
The Cougars got it all in an 11-1 blowout win over Beloit. Matthew Sulentic was one of the hitting stars in the game. He went two for four with a double, three RBIs and a run. Jermaine Mitchell also had a nice game and he went three for four with two triples, two RBIs and three runs.
Derrick Gordon picked up the win with 3 2/3 innings of solid relief. He gave up one unearned run and he struck out five.
The Cougars lost 10-6 and John Herrera took the loss a rough start. He gave up six runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts in three innings of work and the loss drops him to 2-5 on the season.
Jermine Mitchell singled and he drove in three runs. Michael Affronti went three for five with three runs scored.
There wasn’t much offense in either game, but the Cougars finished with a split in their doubleheader with Cedar Rapids. The first game was a 3-1 loss and Jermaine Mitchell drove in the lone run. Andrew Bailey took the loss despite striking out ten in 5 1/3 innings. He gave up three runs on six hits.
In the second game, James Heuser struck out nine in six shutout innings to pick up the win. Christian Vitters went two for three with a double and an RBI.
The Cougars topped the Rattlers 8-4 and it was a nice team effort in the win. Four different hitters drove in two runs and three different players scored twice. Oddly, Jermaine Mitchell was the only player with three hits and he did neither of those two things.
Henry Alberto Rodriguez picked up the win with five shutout innings. He gave up two runs on four hits and he struck out six.
Once again, the Cougars found a way to lose despite a great start by Andrew Bailey. He gave up one run on three hits and two walks with eleven strikeouts in six innings.
The offense was held to just three hits in the 1-0 shutout loss. Jermaine Mitchell doubled and he was the only Cougar with an extra base hit.
John Herrera was hit hard and he took the loss in the Cougars 9-2 loss. He gave up four runs on seven hits and five walks with one strikeout. The loss dropped his record to 2-3 on the season.
Jermaine Mitchell had two hits and he drove in a run. Michael Massaro and Matthew Sulentic each had two hits and a run in the loss.
Scott Deal picked up the win in the Cougars 6-1 win over South Bend. He gave up a single run on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings and the win improves Deal’s record to 1-1.
Alexander Valdez had a nice day at the plate. He doubled, tripled, drove in two and scored two more. Jermaine Mitchell was a perfect three for three with with a run.
Kane County lost to South Bend 5-3 but it wasn’t because of a decent start by James Heuser. He gave up three of the runs on four hits and one walk with eleven strikeouts in six innings. Joe Piekarz took the loss and he gave up two runs in two innings.
All three runs for the Cougars came on solo homeruns. Jermaine Mitchell, Greg Dowling and Christian Vitters all went yard in the loss.
Kane County was completely shut down at the plate today. The lone hit in the 7-0 loss was a single by Jermaine Mitchell.
It also didn’t help that the pitching wasn’t there. John Herrera was knocked around for six runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings of work.
